Wrapping up the 2018-2019 Ski Season in Aspen

While recent snowfall seems to tell a different story, the clock is indeed ticking on winter, and we’re willing to bet there are still boxes to left to check on your winter to-do list. Fortunately, here in Aspen, winter is measured by the running of the ski lifts, and not by the spring equinox. So, hurry on up to Aspen and make the most of the remainder of the winter 2018-2019 ski season before the clock runs out on April 21!

Here’s a look at what we’re most excited about this spring in Aspen:

Extended Lift Hours

As the days get longer, so does the skiing! As of February 16, select lifts at all four Aspen Snowmass mountains continue running until 4pm through the end of the ski season. At Aspen Mountain those lifts are the Silver Queen Gondola, Ajax Express and the FIS lift. At Snowmass, the Elk Camp Gondola and Sheer Bliss lifts will run until 4 p.m. The Village Express will run until 4 p.m. to the top and until 4:15 p.m. to the mid station. The Exhibition lift at Aspen Highlands and the Summit Express lift at Buttermilk will also run until 4 p.m.

Film Festivals

Starting on April 2nd, the 28th Annual Aspen Shortsfest, named one of 50 film festivals worth the entry fee by Moviemaker Magazine, returns to the Wheeler. Aspen Shortsfest has a rich history here in Aspen and boasts having had notable filmmakers like Sean Baker, Damien Chazelle, Sarah Polley, Jason Reitman and Lucy Walker presenting films and conversations. In true Aspen Film fashion, this year’s program is rife with a global cross-section of film from over 30 countries.

Aspen Art Tours

New this year, curator Agustina Mistretta, offers free weekly walking tours of local contemporary art galleries. Every Thursday evening, the tour will cover five to six different downtown galleries. Stops have included the Skye Gallery, the Cha Cha Gallery, the Gonzo Gallery and more.

The Après

This new music and mountain festival is the perfect place to celebrate the start of spring in the Rockies. In collaboration with Belly Up Aspen, Aspen Snowmass brings a brand new, three-day music festival to the base of Buttermilk. On Buttermilk’s closing weekend, April 5-7, enjoy performances by Umphrey’s McGee and The String Cheese Incident.

Indoor Music

Belly Up Aspen is well known as one of the things that truly makes Aspen Aspen. It seems like every winter, they manage to kick it up yet another notch, and this spring is no exception. Don’t miss performances by Donavan Frankenreiter, Stephen Marley, moe., Chromeo, Lukas Nelson, STS9, Big Gigantic and more.

Closing Day Parties

Nothing screams spring in Aspen quite like bacon, a freezing cold pond, hilarious outfits, and gigantic parties. If you’re looking for a way to celebrate the end of the ski season, look no further. At Aspen Snowmass, we don’t just have one celebration, we have four. Start with Bacon Day at Buttermilk on April 8th, then head over to Aspen Highlands in the afternoon for the biggest bash of the season. If the excitement at Aspen Highlands wasn’t enough for you, head to Aspen Mountain on the 15th for an 80’s prom at the Sundeck, La Ultima Fiesta at Ajax Tavern, or hop the bus to Snowmass Village for Schneetag and the annual Surf & Snow Beach Party at Elk Camp.
